Prager H2: Food Stamp Fallout

Prager H2: The discussion on food stamps continues as callers weigh in. Obviously, if someone is starving they should receive assistance, but what effect does this “hand up” have on society long-term?

Prager H1: S.N.A.P., Crackle, and Pop

Prager H1: A NY Times article reports there is no longer stigma associated with receiving food stamps. Food businesses, farmers, city and state governments, as well as recipients love the system. Of course, it is no longer called “food stamps” .too much stigma. It’s now the SNAP. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. card system. Everyone seems to love it except the relatively few Americans still paying federal income tax. Dennis sees no difference between welfare and food stamps, but the government says there is a big difference. As explained by a caller who was told by a sibling who gets assistance, “welfare is a hand out. food stamps are a hand up!” Also, John Goodman, President and CEO of the National Center for Policy Analysis, joins the program to discuss healthcare reform.
